Rawalpindi: The Punjab Government has decided to develop the Rawalpindi Ring Road (RRR) project under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) after being unable to find financers for the project under the private-public partnership (PPP) model, a news source reported on November 15. The PKR 23 billion worth project<\/a> is expected to be inaugurated by the prime minister next month.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sources reported that the final approval of the project is likely at the Central Development Working Party (CDWP) meeting on November 22. Furthermore, the government has begun the land purchase<\/a> procedure for the project, for which PKR 6 billion have already been reserved.\u00a0The same meeting will grant the related approvals for Leh Expressway for which the land acquisition process has already been started. Reportedly, the Rawalpindi Development Authority has started marking the area on IJP Road for the 16.5-kilometre long expressway project. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project’s revised design plan includes the excavation of the Leh storm drain in order to deepen it, which will lower the overall land acquisition cost. According to the project’s Project Concept-1 (PC-1) plan<\/a>, 720 homes will be demolished and trenches will be constructed for setting up a sewage water treatment plant. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
