Peshawar: Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) Chairman Lt General (retd) Muzammil Hussain on Wednesday (December 08) said that the work on 800 Megawatt (MW) Mohmand Dam project is progressing quickly, news sources reported. He said that the first unit of 200MW will come on stream by December 2025<\/a>.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

During his meeting with a group of legislators, he stated that the project is on schedule, with the final construction projected to be completed by 2026. He stated that the project’s completion will save PKR 1.467 billion in flood mitigation costs<\/a> while also producing one billion units of clean and inexpensive electricity at a cost of PKR 16 per unit and an annual income of PKR 2.86 billion. He also stated that the project will irrigate 16,700 acres of agricultural land in addition to the 160,000 acres already irrigated. In addition, a connected irrigation system will be implemented, saving PKR 2.23 billion. He went on to say that the initiative will help jumpstart infrastructure projects in the surrounding areas, including clean drinking water, healthcare, and education for the residents.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n
