Islamabad: \u00a0Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman Amir Ali Ahmed on Wednesday (December 15) directed the concerned officials to make various sectors of Islamabad friendlier for people with special needs, news sources reported. The directives in this regard came directly from President Arif Alvi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the first phase, the CDA will create a friendly environment for people with disabilities (PWD) in F-6 Markaz. The civic authority will provide the same in I-8 Markaz and Aabpara Market in the next phase. In this respect, a committee will be formed to examine and identify the needs of PWD. Based on their recommendation, architectural provisions will be provided.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
These decisions were taken in a meeting attended by members of the CDA board, officials from the Presidency, faculty from the Architecture Department at Comsat University, and representatives from NUST University, and the National Council of Arts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In another PWD-related move, the government has agreed to make data collection on persons with disabilities mandatory in the 2022 census. The Census will be known as the ‘Inclusive Census 2022.’ The information gathered will be used to develop a national strategy to protect PWD rights and ensure their welfare.
