Islamabad: The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) on Monday (January 25) approved the PKR 108.5 billion Kharian-Rawalpindi motorway project, news sources reported. The initiative will be considered further by the National Economic Council’s Executive Committee (ECNEC)<\/a> before the start of work. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to reports, Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) would construct the 117.20-kilometre-long access-controlled road based on the National Highway Authority (NHA)<\/a> plan. As per Project Concept-1 (PC-1), the motorway runs parallel to the N-5, going through the populated regions of Jhelum, Mangla, Dina, Sohawa, Gujar Khan, and Mandra before ending at Rawat at T-Chowk (Junction of Islamabad Expressway with N-5). Considering traffic volumes, the motorway is built as a 4-lane access controlled facility that will be extended to 6-lanes as required by Level of Service (LOS). It will integrate an Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) to make driving safer and more efficient. The alignment\/route of the Motorway facility is chosen with future connection to other planned facilities or expansions in mind. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
