Islamabad: The Ministry of Housing and Works and the Federal Government Employees Housing Authority (FGEHA<\/a>) has announced its plan to set up Urban Regeneration Board (URB) to deal with state land in different cities including Islamabad, according to a news story published on Thursday (February 24).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As per the details, the proposed URB will consist 14 members, headed by the housing secretary. According to the draft of the Urban Regeneration and Redevelopment Act-2021, the board will have the power to carry out \u2018clearance, development, regeneration, and re-development of state lands in different cities. The board will act as an agent of the government and have the power to lease, sub-lease, sell, and grant licenses to occupy or use land.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moreover, the draft was shared with the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and the provincial governments. FGEHA Director Planning Rizwan-ur-Rehman stated the proposed board is being formed to make decisions related to land and property of various cities. In response to the ownership of government houses in CDA sectors, the director mentioned that they will work in collaboration with the civic agency to resolve the matter. They plan to go for vertical construction rather than big government houses.
