Lahore: The Cabinet Committee on Legislative Business on Thursday (March 10) approved setting up a new cement plant in Punjab <\/a>to increase cement production and support construction industry, news sources reported. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The meeting also approved the capacity enhancement for the two existing cement plants. The meeting was presided over by Muhammad Basharat Raja, Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs, and several decisions were made involving land reforms, education development, and universities. The meeting agreed to amend the Land Act-2019 to allow for the exchange of state land in housing schemes. However, according to Senior Member Board of Revenue (SMBR) Babar Hayat Tarar, the amendment would only allow the exchange of up to two acres of state land. According to the SMBR, the housing projects would surely provide the government with alternative land. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The committee accepted a plan for administrative reforms of Punjab’s public sector universities. Additionally, permission was given for signing an agreement among Quaid-e-Azam Academy for Educational Development, the Punjab School Education Department, and the British Council. The Cabinet Committee also approved the Faisalabad Industrial Estate Development and Management Company’s Board of Directors nominations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the other side, US Counsel General William Makaneole met with Punjab Minister for Social Welfare and Bait-ul-Maal Syed Yawar Abbas Bukhari. The minister informed the consul of the continuing development work and the efforts to ensure the welfare of differently-abled individuals and those with special abilities.
