Rawalpindi: The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has decided to award the development contract of Rawalpindi Ring Road (RRR) to only government-operated construction firms due to the sensitivity of the project, news sources reported. The authority will grant the PKR 23 billion project to either Frontier Works Organisation (FWO)<\/a>, National Logistics Cell (NLC) or National Construction (NC).\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to RDA officials, the 38-kilometre-long project would be completed in two years with a total budget of PKR 23 billion. As per the National Engineering Service Pakistan (NESPAK)<\/a>, the mega road infrastructure would start in Bandh near GT Road Rawat and terminate in Thaliyan, becoming an alternate traffic route to industrial zones. The RDA has already issued a letter to the management of FWO and NLC requesting that they submit their bids together with the necessary certificates and portfolios of their prior work to be included in the final list of selected firms. It was also announced that by the end of March, the Punjab Environmental Protection Agency (PEPA)<\/a> will hear the grievances and concerns of communities and parties involved regarding the proposed project.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is worth noting that the long-delayed project was supposed to be inaugurated by Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan last year. However, it was postponed due to a change in the intended route.
