Rawalpindi: The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA<\/a>) has announced that it would not approve any new residential or commercial projects without a proper rainwater management plan, according to news published on May 12.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As per the RDA spokesperson, the authority has been directed by the director general to formulate this new rule to utilise precious rainwater. With this development, Rawalpindi will become the second city in Punjab to harvest rainwater as an environment-friendly measure. The spokesperson said that with the depletion of freshwater resources, the storage of rainwater has become essential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moreover, the official said that mosques have more need for water and require a larger model for rainwater harvesting. He revealed the authority\u2019s plan to use rainwater for ablution in mosques and then repurpose it for irrigation. He further said rainwater can be used for gardening, irrigation, septic tanks and car wash stations. RDA Spokesperson revealed that the rainwater harvest in the city has been introduced with funds offered by Turkey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was also highlighted that with the help of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), RDA had launched a rainwater harvesting system at Masjid Sarajia in Asghar Mall Scheme.
