Gwadar: Pakistan and Iran on Tuesday (June 21) signed an agreement to provide electricity to Gwadar from Iran, news sources reported. The deal was signed between the Pakistan National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC) and TAVANIR, which is an Iranian electricity producing and distribution company. Read: Gwadar to get solar power generation units by March According to the deal, the Iranian company Sunir will build an electrical transmission line from Polan to Gwadar (Balochistan). Gwadar will receive a total of 100 megawatts in addition to the existing power to meet its demands.\u00a0 However, the government has not provided any more information on the project’s cost or timeline. It is worth noting that Iran has been supplying energy to the districts of Gwadar, Kech, and Panjgur in southern Balochistan since 1999. Iran provides 18 gigawatts (GWs) of power to the coastal region each year at PKR 18 per kilowatt-hour.
