Islamabad: Prime Minister (PM) Shahbaz Sharif on Thursday (October 6) asked the Information Technology (IT) Task Force Committee to formulate new regulations to encourage the IT & telecom industries to meet the USD 5 billion export objective.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The PM stated that the IT industry is becoming more important in today’s fast-paced world and has the ability to increase wealth and resources for the people of the country. He said that measures to improve the operation of contact centres, telcos, sovereign technology parks (STP), software companies, and freelancing for the rapid expansion of this prospective service sector have already made significant progress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The meeting was also informed about the ongoing effects of IT-related measures. He was informed that Pakistan is the world’s third-largest retailer on Amazon<\/a> and the fourth-largest exporter of IT products, with a total turnover of USD 2.6 billion and a workforce of about 40,000 IT specialists. The premier was informed that the government will embark on a rigorous campaign of marketing and roadshows for the promotion of the freelancing and software development sectors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is important to note that Pakistan was named the third-largest retailer this month by Amazon.
