Islamabad: Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday approved the establishment of 2,000 megawatts of solar power projects<\/a> in the public sector in a bid to create a low-cost and environment-friendly alternative to meet electricity demand in the country, according to news published on September 30.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The said approval was given during a high-level meeting held under the chairmanship of the PM regarding the 10,000 MW solarization project in the country. During the meeting, the premier opined that the mega-scale power project will alleviate the country\u2019s dependence on pricier fuel-fired projects which will assist the national exchequer in saving valuable foreign exchange. It was highlighted that under the project, tube wells being used for agriculture in all four provinces will be converted to solar power on a priority basis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PM Sharif stated that the solar power projects will eliminate distribution issues, transmission losses, power theft and any increase in circular debt. He also assured that the companies investing in the solar power sector will be offered sovereign guarantees by the government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moreover, the meeting was also informed that an investors\u2019 conference for attracting investment in the solar sector and representatives from countries including; United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, China, and Qatar participated and expressed deep interest in investing in the solar energy sector in Pakistan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The attendees were told that a site near Muzaffargarh has been identified for the development of a 600 MW solar power plant and work is underway regarding 11KV feeders powered by solar energy.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
