Winter disaster management: KP PDMA chalks out contingency plan <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Peshawar: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has finalised a plan to counter extreme weather conditions during the winter season, news sources reported on December 7.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The plan has been prepared to cope with extremely low temperatures, fog, smog, snowfall, rainfall, landslides, flash floods and seismic activity along the mountainous north and western region of the country. As per the reports, the plan is prepared with all the provincial disaster management agencies involved with the aim of relief, rehabilitation and settlement to ensure a unified response for minimising the impacts of various winter hazards on people. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking to the media, PDMA Director General Sharif Hussain said that the government have been preparing contingency plans since October, which involved data collection and area-wise profiling of major disasters and hazards. All the districts have mapped out their vulnerable sites and prepared a plan wherein all available resources are represented and the corresponding response is chalked out to clearly define the roles and responsibilities of various departments in case of any unfavourable scenario.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is important to note that Pakistan has been dealing with a number of climate-related incidents that have cost the economy billions in terms of damage caused and productivity losses.
