Rawalpindi: The Punjab government has announced that the land acquisition process for the Chahar Dam<\/a> project has been paced up with the assistance of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), according to news published on April 11.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As per the sources, the project is estimated to cost USD 117 million and will provide 12 million gallons of water per day to six union councils including Girja-1, Girja-2, Lakhan, Chak Jalaldin, Dhamyal and Mohri Ghazan. The project will also add five million gallons of water per day from the Rawal Dam Treatment Plant to Rawalpindi, which will boost the city\u2019s water supply to 28 million gallons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As for the Chahar Dam project\u2019s funding, the Punjab government has allocated PKR 650 million for land acquisition, with the rest being provided by ADB. The development work on the Chahar Dam project is expected to start by the end of this year and the finance department has been directed to start the process of land acquisition soon.
Reportedly, the design of the dam was modified to offer a full-pressure water supply to identified areas and curb water stealing.
