Islamabad: The Ministry of Climate Change and Coordination (MoCCC<\/a>) informed the Senate panel that the plastic waste generated in 2022 was around three million tons and it might rise to 12 million tons by 2040 if no urgent measures are taken, according to news published on April 12.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The MoCCC officials briefed the meeting of the Standing Committee on Climate Change that Pakistan has joined the Global Plastic Action Partnership in order to decrease plastic waste and the government is working on different recycling projects. The Committee Chairman opined that efforts should focus on finding a substitute rather than banning plastic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moreover, the officials (whose name was not disclosed) mentioned that the ministry was collaborating with international partners to find eco-friendly recycling solutions.
