Commuting work on Islamabad Highway

Dear all, can you please let me know from your experience or knowledge on how much it takes to commute work close to Blue Area from Major zone 5 housing societies like Bahria Ph 1-4 and DHA 2? Both in the morning office time and in the evening 6pm off office time.

Dear khalid normally if you are coming from Bahria to Blue Area in normal traffic it will take 30 to 40 minutes however in rush hour office timing and school timing it can be one hour

Thanks Syed Ibrahim: And I guess the time would be the same from DHA II to Blue Area also?

From Bahria phase 1 to 4 to Blue Area 25 mints drive in the morning and about 35 mints drive in the evening due to traffic block. Add 15 minutes more in morning and evening time.

Almost same from DHA II

Ufff... I just did some calculations if it takes 1 hour from Zone5/Bahria/DHA2 etc to blue are here are the results:

In one day a guy would travel at least 2 hours ( going to office and back) In one week 10 hours (for work ) + 2 hours ( extra travel to islamabad ) = 12 hours in a week

In a month 12 x 4 = 48 hours In an year 48 X 12 = 576 hours Days in an year 576/24 = 24 days

Uff that means each year almost one month is wasted just traveling from zone 5 to Islamabad !! Sounds crazy!

can any one in islamabad calculate the cost of petrol or CNG that would be wasted in an year doing this kind of commute from zone 5 to blue area ?

Dear Khalid,

CNG and petrol calculations... hm, this is interesting I was doing a project behind Islamabad toll plaza at that time when CNG rate was 64 or 66 rs per kg my daily expense was rs 350 so i think so you need Rs 300 CNG for daily movement as new rate of CNG is Rs 77. or minimum rs 275 this is my rough guess. Petrol depends on your car as EFI cars are good in petrol

Thanks Syed Ibrahim.... hmm... Rs 300 for CNG daily means:

in one month a guy would spend on CNG = 300X25 = Rs 7500 and in one year a guy would spend on CNG = Rs 90,000

and this is just for commuting to work! so how does it make any sense for a guy who has office in Islamabad to live in Zone 5 (Bahria, DHA, etc ) I done understand this at all! any explanation is really WELCOME here ....

BTW these prices are for CNG which I hear is running short in Pakistan... for petrol the cost will 2 to 3 times depending on the car.

Hm I agree Mr Khalid. but the thing is that quality conscious people do prefer Bahria. and also people who are working in Saddar or surroundings Bahria is ideal for them however I personally also don’t like to live that much away if you are working in Blue Area.

Yes I also agree quality wise Bahria is the best in Pakistan! and may be the best and ideal for people working in Saddar, Cantt, or areas near Bahria… but for people working near blue year I guess it does not make any sense as the good quality on Bahria is lost by loss of quality of life of commuting to work for a whole month in one year… i.e. 2+ hours a day

Agreed for a quality life you are suffering, wasting your time and fuel then I think so it will be quality life without peace.

@United,

Is this for working day during office timings and are you talking about Islamabad expressway? As from what I hear it takes at least 1 hour these days?

45 minutes to 60 minutes from DHA to Blue Area and an average once in a month the expressway is blocked and it will take 2-3 hours.

I live in Safari Villas 1 Bahria Town & my office is in F11 the commute is long approx 40 mins one way & Blue Area is 20-30 minutes one way, with your transit considerations per day & your budget you should look at Fazaiya Colony its safe, gated & a nice place to live.

@Ali Hamza,

Thanks for the Fazaiya Colony idea? Do you or anyone else have any idea about the electricity situation of this colony? And do any civilians/professionals/intellectuals also live in this colony of its full of Army/air force residents as I prefer to live among more professional/civilized/educated people.

As car ownership increases the travelling time will take longer in the future. In the future it may not be practical to travel from Zone 5 to blue area, unless great strides are made in public transport or extra major roads are built. Eventually Zone 5 will have to develop its own commercial areas.

@Arshad,

Agree with you! And i think even now it's not very practical to commute 1.5 to 2 hours daily coming and going back! In the future this time will increase not only due to increase in the ownership of cars but also due to the population increase in Zone-5.

Dear Khalid,

Yesterday i visited DHA from G-11 in rush hours. We reached in 58 minutes i am talking about one side drive. It's really tough if you are working in Blue Area or F-10 and living in Bahria. But undoubtedly there environment landscaping security is very good.

Bahria is a bit paindu. There are statues of cows and buffaloes and there is a small zoo. Personally for a person like me having lived abroad for so many years, I will want to come back and live in a peaceful and decent locality - not a wonderland and not PC Bhurban.

DHA is much better, but DHA is too far as well. So I think G-14 looks good to me inshaAllah.
