How long a roof beam could stand firm?

You can design as long as you want but with increase in span dimensions of beam and qty of steel increases.. Making it uneconomical
if room dimensions are huge and you want column less structure then go for waffle slabs...
What if the beam is 9" X 9"
or 12" X 18"
It depends on the steel being used with .5 inch steel the maximum you can go is 15 feet which is still not advisable.
If the length of your beam is 20 feet than 1 inch steel needs to be used at least 8 lengths should be used. This is a rough idea.
