Is it anti-patriotic?

To invest in real estate for years, big capital just sitting there in plots and land? Where as it can be utilized in much better options the people of pakistan needs both for better lives and economy. Like electronics, agriculture, cars, energy and so on? The billions just stagnant with a dull system to discourage use elsewhere is it killing us economically?

@ sinful…Sir totally agreed with you. That is why before musharraf era, real estate was not considered to be a hot business but in current scenarios where there is no business opportunity other than real estate, people affiliated with other type of businesses are even forced to invest in real estate because of depressed circumstances. Our governments are not not supportive for other types of businesses because of mafia driven markets.A prime example of such case is the loss that floor mills recently suffered where a substandard wheat was imported at much mower prices and local mills owners were forced to face colossal losses and only those made quick bucks who had insider infos and links with big shots and mafias.Plight of farmers is ostensibly visible to everyone.Same is the case with every other business.Your government should be supportive for the business who are govt policies dependent. Would love to listen if you have any other business plan in your mind…

Quite a few reasons why real estate is business #1 in Pakistan: chronic political instability which in general discourages investment in factories and other jobs-creating ventures; our obsession as a (feudal/rural)society with owning a piece of real estate (one’s self-esteem is challenged by one’s own relatives); the above two reasons combine to create reason #3: since this is the only game in town, there is a de facto insurance against loss and the upside potential is always there. As a result, even those who are not crazy about real estate are drawn into it, simply because the returns are safe and good. Is all of this unpatriotic? Define patriotic first. (and please do not churn out the Aabpara definition of the term)

In the eighties my relatives in Multan sold their 10 marla house in Gulgasht for Rs 4 lakhs and used that money to do business. Today, Gulgasht is commercialised and that 10 marla house is worth Rs 7 crore.

Did they make a mistake in selling the house? No. In fact, with that 4 lakh investment in a single business by 5 brothers has produced more than 8-9 separate businesses for those 5 brothers and several lavish houses for each of them and some of their children as well.

Our Prophet Muhammad SalAllahu Alaihi Wasallam has said that 90% of the entire Rizk is in trade.

The moral of the story is that an active business always produces much better results than sitting on your property and waiting for price increase.

Even today in this depressed economic situation, doing your own business will give you better results than any investment in Bahria, DHA, Multi or LDA. But still people invest in real estate and not in active business because real estate is safe. And the rule is the more the risk the more the riZk.

So finally the Government is discouraging investment in real estate
