Investments ideally should be held for a very long time if you really want to benfit from them. Take the example of a plot of land which rises with time and the longer you hold it the greater the benefits. If you could hold the same piece of land for 20 years you could literally earn crores. That principle applies to all investments not just land. However, 2 to 3 years is a very short time for investing money. If you need the money in that 2 to 3 years time, it is best not to invest in property or stocks as the prices might drop during that time and you might loose money. In this situation it is best to opt for some safe venue like interest bearing accounts in a bank.
