In a recent development, the government has decided to have the tax records of all Pakistanis made available on an online tax portal. The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) will have this tax portal launched very soon.
The bright side of this decision is that the online tax portal will also feature records of government employees like cabinet and parliament members. The portal will also show tax records of the business community as well as individuals taxpayers. This measure would definitely induce a transparency in the matter of tax collection.
However, it is also important that this online tax portal is transparent itself, because it would be of no use if it can be manipulated.
