Islamabad: The government has decided to partially revive renewable energy projects which had been blocked in March 2018, according to a news source. This revival is subject to a new tariff mechanism and a greater role in decision-making of the National Transmission and Dispatch Company (NTDC) in providing interconnection facilities.
It also gave Sindh Government an opportunity to provide interconnection facility to renewable energy projects it had issued Letters of Interest (LoIs) for. The March 2018 order had blocked these projects as well, but they can now be revived.
The Cabinet Committee on Energy (CCOE), presided over by Finance Minister Asad Umar, made this decision. The CCOE also approved a number of proposals from the Power Division, under the provision that all renewable energy projects will be treated in line with the Renewable Energy Policy 2019. This policy considers the international market norms and more benefits for customers. the committee has approved the policy’s guiding principles, but the framework will be established on a later date.
