Lahore: The Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) has recorded a strong start to the financial year 2025-26, collecting over PKR 20 billion in July.
According to an official statement, the authority generated PKR 19.5 billion from sales tax and PKR 506 million under the Punjab Infrastructure Development Cess, bringing total collections to PKR 20.073 billion. The figure reflects a 46% increase compared to the same month last year.
Officials highlighted that the growth came without any increase in tax rates, underscoring the success of the PRA’s revised strategy. The authority credited the performance to broadening the tax base, bringing new sectors under the net, and promoting voluntary compliance through awareness workshops and outreach programmes.
“This approach avoids overburdening existing taxpayers while encouraging more businesses to contribute,” the spokesperson said.
Since the 18th Amendment, provincial revenue authorities have played an increasingly important role in Pakistan’s fiscal framework, collecting sales tax on services to fund public development, infrastructure, and social programmes. The PRA’s strong opening collections are expected to reduce Punjab’s reliance on federal transfers and strengthen the province’s financial autonomy.
Officials expressed confidence that the momentum will help the authority achieve — and potentially surpass — its annual revenue targets.
