Lahore: The Punjab government has approved a set of major infrastructure projects aimed at easing traffic congestion and enhancing road safety in Rawalpindi and Mandi Bahauddin, with a total estimated cost of PKR 7.4 billion.
The approvals were granted during the second meeting of the Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) for the fiscal year 2025–26, held on Friday. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Naeem Rauf, Chairman of the Planning and Development Board Punjab, and attended by senior officials, including Secretary P&D Board Rafaqat Ali and Chief Economist Masood Anwar.

In Rawalpindi, three key projects were sanctioned under the roads and bridges sector. These include the construction of two underpasses—one at GPO Chowk and another at TM Chowk on The Mall—along with a pedestrian underpass near the Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology (AFIC). The combined cost for these projects is estimated at PKR 5.552 billion.
Meanwhile, in Mandi Bahauddin, the PDWP approved a separate road infrastructure scheme involving the widening of the road from District Complex to Kakuwal Bridge along the Gujrat Branch. This project also includes the construction of a flyover and carries an estimated cost of PKR 1.864 billion.

These infrastructure initiatives are part of a broader development package that includes nine major schemes across various sectors, with a total funding allocation exceeding PKR 52.3 billion. The projects are expected to improve traffic flow, reduce travel time, and enhance commuter safety in key urban centers of Punjab.
