Karachi: Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab has invited the Association of Builders and Developers (ABAD) to partner with the city administration in redeveloping informal settlements as part of broader efforts to improve Karachi’s urban infrastructure.
The proposal was made during a meeting with an ABAD delegation led by Chairman Hassan Bakhshi, where both sides discussed ongoing development projects, the construction sector and key urban challenges facing the city.
The mayor described the construction industry as a key driver of Pakistan’s economy, saying it supports millions of livelihoods and plays an important role in economic growth. He added that the Sindh government and the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) are working to accelerate infrastructure development across the city.

Emphasising the need for sustainable urban planning, Wahab said the city administration aims to introduce a new development model for informal settlements and called on ABAD to collaborate in implementing the initiative.
Addressing traffic congestion, which he described as Karachi’s biggest urban challenge, the mayor said the KMC is considering the construction of modern parking plazas to help improve traffic flow.
The meeting was also attended by Municipal Commissioner Abrar Jaffar, Financial Adviser Gulzar Ali Abro, senior KMC officials and representatives of the construction industry.
