Karachi: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has assured financing support of up to USD 1 billion for the Sindh Sustainable Mobility Project, along with initial funding of around USD 10 million for preparatory work.
According to officials, the preparatory financing will cover design review, operational planning, institutional arrangements, and development of financing models for the project.
A high-level ADB delegation met Sindh Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah to discuss financial and technical support for major urban transport initiatives under the proposed Sindh Sustainable Mobility Project.
The discussions focused on developing integrated and sustainable transport systems across Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, and Larkana, aimed at improving public transport, reducing traffic congestion, and promoting environment-friendly mobility solutions.

The meeting also reviewed progress on the proposed revival of the Karachi Circular Railway (KCR). Officials said the Sindh government will share previous feasibility studies and technical documents with ADB for further evaluation.
Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah said the provincial government is committed to building a modern and efficient public transport network across Sindh. He added that the Karachi Circular Railway remains a priority project, with the potential to ease congestion, improve mobility, and support economic activity in Karachi.
He directed relevant departments to ensure timely submission of PC-II documents, maintain coordination with ADB, and complete preparatory work within set timelines.
The ADB delegation was led by Deputy Country Director Hussain Haider and included Transport Specialist Wonbae Seo, Project Officer Infrastructure Hamid Khan, along with consultants and other officials. Senior officials from the Sindh Planning and Development Board and Transport Department also attended the meeting.
