Islamabad: The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) has approved regulatory relaxations for Non-Banking Microfinance Companies (NBMFCs), allowing them to participate directly in Punjab’s flagship housing scheme, Apni Chhat Apna Ghar.
This move enables microfinance providers—known for supporting low-income and marginalized communities—to offer housing finance solutions under the scheme, expanding access to affordable homeownership for underserved populations.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s Apni Chhat Apna Ghar initiative aims to provide affordable housing to low-income families across the province. By including NBMFCs, the scheme addresses critical financing gaps that traditional lenders often overlook.
The SECP highlighted that this regulatory easing supports inclusive economic growth by empowering microfinance firms to extend their services into affordable housing finance, thereby contributing to socio-economic development.
Stakeholders have welcomed the change, seeing it as a vital step toward helping thousands of low-income households achieve homeownership.
