Lahore: Punjab’s flagship Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar low-cost housing programme received strong international attention after a detailed briefing was held for more than 15 foreign media representatives. The session was attended by Punjab Housing Minister Bilal Yasin, Parliamentary Secretary Sultan Bajwa, and Secretary Housing Noor-ul-Amin Mengal.
During the briefing, officials revealed that over 120,000 individuals have so far secured housing loans worth more than PKR 150 billion under the initiative. The programme aims to provide affordable homeownership to low-income households across the province.
According to the Housing Department, over 70,000 houses are currently under construction, while 45,000 homes have already been completed. For beneficiaries, the programme offers highly accessible financing, with a monthly installment of just PKR 14,000 for a PKR 1.5 million loan, and a 100% repayment rate reported so far.

Minister Bilal Yasin stated that, as per the Chief Minister’s directives, all recovered installments will be reinvested to extend housing loans to more families. He added that the construction of over 100,000 houses annually will allow millions to access secure and dignified housing in the coming years.
He emphasised that the programme is built on complete transparency, with applicants not required to pay any registration fee. The process is kept entirely free from political, religious, or administrative influence, ensuring that all beneficiaries are selected purely on merit.
Project Director Waleed Iqbal, DG Punjab Housing Sikandar Zeeshan, and representatives from partner organisations also attended the session, where international media expressed keen interest in the scale, transparency, and social impact of the provincial government’s housing model.
