Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has announced plans to revive and develop several long-stalled residential sectors in Islamabad, reaffirming its commitment to the city’s original master plan as it marks 65 years since the plan’s inception.
Speaking at a ceremony held at F-9 Park to commemorate the 65th anniversary of Islamabad Master Plan and World Cities Day, CDA Chairman Mohammad Ali Randhawa described the master plan as the “backbone of Islamabad’s core infrastructure and development.” He said the authority’s renewed focus is on expanding and developing new sectors in line with the city’s original planning principles.
“No new sector had been developed for a long time,” Randhawa noted, adding that the CDA is now fully prepared to deliver multiple pending residential sectors, including C-14, C-15, C-16, I-12, I-15, E-12, E-13, D-13, and F-13. He also said the Margalla Enclave project is being developed in collaboration with the Defence Housing Authority (DHA).
According to CDA records, work is in advanced stages in C-14 and I-12, while progress continues in C-15, C-16, and parts of E-12. However, development has yet to begin in E-13 and F-13. Officials said with more attention and resolution of land compensation issues, work on key sectors could be completed soon.
Sector E-12 was originally launched in 1989, while the C-series sectors (C-13 to C-16) were acquired in 2008 through a land-sharing formula. However, compensation disputes and administrative delays stalled their development for years.
The CDA chairman highlighted that several steps had been taken in recent years to accelerate development, including financial autonomy, digital transformation initiatives, and collaboration with Suparco for satellite imagery to enhance urban planning and address land issues.
Randhawa also announced upcoming mega projects such as an expo centre, five-star hotels, and a cricket stadium, which are expected to support Islamabad’s economic and urban growth.
He praised Islamabad’s master plan as “a symbol of urban planning and development for 65 years,” and said the CDA remains committed to maintaining the capital’s status as one of the world’s most beautiful and well-planned cities.
As part of the celebrations, the CDA also organised a community festival, Islamabad Shehar Mela, at F-9 Park, featuring innovation displays, musical performances, and local food stalls to engage citizens in celebrating the city’s planning legacy and future vision.
