Islamabad: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said the second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) will accelerate industrialisation, modernise agriculture, and open new opportunities in the IT and renewable energy sectors.
In an interview with Chinese channel CGTN, Bilawal highlighted that cooperation between Pakistan and China would extend into advanced fields such as solar and wind power, as well as electric vehicles. “As a result, we expect to see greater socio-economic development within Pakistan, and for the peoples of both Pakistan and China to reap the benefits of CPEC,” he said.

The PPP chairman also welcomed China’s Global Governance Initiative, calling it timely in addressing global challenges like climate change, terrorism, and pandemics. He emphasised the importance of multilateralism, international law, and cooperation in stabilising a world that, he noted, is witnessing “more disorder than order.”
Commenting on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recent visit to Beijing, Bilawal said the new action plan agreed with China reflects “concrete steps” to advance the second phase of CPEC. He expressed particular interest in Pakistan benefitting from China’s expertise in technology, artificial intelligence, and modern industrial practices.
Quoting a Chinese proverb, Bilawal said he hoped Pakistan would not just rely on external support but instead “learn to fish” by adopting advanced technologies to build sustainable economic growth.
