Peshawar: The district administration has stepped up efforts to resolve the 35-year-old Regi Model Town land dispute, initiating a series of weekly jirgas and involving empowered representatives from the Kukikhel tribe to ensure a lasting settlement.
The initiative is being led by Commissioner Peshawar Division, Riaz Khan Mahsud, with the aim of addressing long-standing grievances and providing justice to affected residents. In a recent meeting chaired by Mahsud, officials including the Deputy Commissioners of Peshawar and Khyber, the Director General of the Peshawar Development Authority, and senior Kukikhel elders discussed nominations for a fully empowered Kukikhel jirga to actively participate in the resolution process.

“Current circumstances provide the best opportunity to end this longstanding impasse and address the concerns of the affected communities,” Mahsud said, appealing to all stakeholders for full cooperation to achieve a fair and durable solution. Kukikhel elders assured the administration of their complete support in the process.
Under the new approach, two to three jirgas are expected to be held weekly, emphasizing direct dialogue, collaboration, and sustained engagement with tribal representatives. The administration aims to provide timely redress and reach a conclusive resolution to one of the region’s longest-standing land disputes.
Officials described the initiative as a proactive strategy to settle the conflict while strengthening trust and cooperation between the government and the local community.
