Islamabad: A delegation from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), led by Director General Hideaki Iwasaki, called on Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan in Islamabad to discuss ongoing and proposed projects in Pakistan’s communications sector.
During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on infrastructure development, road safety, and future cooperation. The minister emphasized that highway and motorway construction projects of public importance remain among the government’s top priorities.
Aleem Khan highlighted that the National Highway Authority (NHA) has recorded a historic increase in revenue over the past year, enabling it to move toward financial self-sufficiency. He added that the completion of the Lahore–Sialkot–Kharian–Rawalpindi Motorway will reduce travel distance between the regions by up to 100 kilometres, cutting both time and fuel consumption. The new route will also serve as an alternate corridor to the existing Lahore–Islamabad Motorway (M-2).
