Karachi: The Sindh government has sought input from all major development and land-owning agencies, including the Karachi Development Authority (KDA), Malir Development Authority (MDA), Lyari Development Authority (LDA), Cantonment Boards, and the Defence Housing Authority (DHA), to finalise the Greater Karachi Regional Plan 2047.
The decision came during the second meeting of the Project Steering Committee for the Karachi Master Plan 2047, chaired by Sindh Minister for Local Government Syed Nasir Hussain Shah at the Sindh Secretariat. Chief Secretary Sindh Asif Haider Shah, along with senior officials from various departments and agencies, also attended the session.
During the meeting, participants reviewed progress made since the first committee meeting and discussed implementation strategies for ongoing urban development initiatives.
Chief Secretary Asif Haider Shah emphasised the importance of coordination among Karachi’s multiple governing bodies, stating that no single agency can operate in isolation. He said the final report of the Master Plan must be prepared with complete accuracy and collective input from all relevant institutions.

He also called for an immediate action plan to address traffic congestion in the city, noting that the issue cannot wait until the plan’s completion, which is expected by June 2027. He added that new water pipelines being laid by the Karachi Water Corporation should be incorporated into the plan to ensure an integrated approach to urban infrastructure.
Local Government Minister Nasir Hussain Shah said the Greater Karachi Regional Plan 2047 would bring transformative changes to the city’s urban, environmental, and economic landscape. He directed all concerned authorities to maintain close coordination and ensure the inclusion of short-, medium-, and long-term strategies in the planning framework.
An international consultant also briefed the committee on progress in key areas such as transport, housing, environment, water management, and infrastructure development.
Additional Chief Secretary for Local Government Dr Waseem Shamshad said the plan aims to turn Karachi into a sustainable and livable megacity through coordinated efforts with federal institutions.
Officials from the Karachi Port Trust (KPT), Pakistan Railways, DHA, NED University, and other public and private sector organisations also attended the meeting.
