Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced that a comprehensive master plan is being implemented to develop Murree and other mountainous regions of Punjab into world-class tourist destinations. She made the remarks on the occasion of International Mountain Day, highlighting the ecological, economic, and recreational significance of Pakistan’s mountains.
The Chief Minister emphasized that Pakistan is home to some of the world’s most magnificent mountain ranges, which play a critical role in maintaining ecological balance and enhancing the natural beauty of the planet. She stressed that protecting these ecosystems is a collective national responsibility and called for increased awareness among tourists to preserve natural landscapes.

Under the master plan, illegal hotels and encroachments in Murree are being removed to ensure sustainable development and maintain the area’s scenic charm. CM Maryam Nawaz noted that Punjab’s mountains, deserts, lakes, and rivers offer immense tourism potential, and structured development can significantly contribute to the provincial and national economy.
The Chief Minister also warned that climate change is severely affecting mountain ecosystems, making urgent protective measures necessary. She highlighted that millions of tourists visit mountainous regions globally, generating economic benefits while underscoring the need for responsible tourism practices.
The master plan aims not only to boost tourism but also to safeguard the environment, ensuring that Punjab’s natural landscapes are preserved for future generations while supporting sustainable economic growth.
