Islamabad: Pakistan has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a Chinese company to collaborate on lithium-ion battery production, energy storage systems, electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, and other clean energy technologies.
The agreement was signed between Pakistan’s Saigols Group and China’s Hebei Juhang Energy Technology Group. It envisages the establishment of a lithium-ion battery assembly and manufacturing facility in Pakistan, aimed at strengthening the country’s clean energy and advanced manufacturing capabilities.
Speaking at the MoU signing ceremony, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production Haroon Akhtar Khan said the partnership marked an important step towards developing a new industrial ecosystem built on technology transfer, local manufacturing, and Pakistan-China industrial cooperation.

He said local production of advanced lithium-ion batteries would help reduce reliance on imports, strengthen the country’s clean energy supply chain, support the growing adoption of solar energy, and create skilled employment opportunities.
The collaboration also covers advanced energy storage systems and EV charging infrastructure, reflecting growing cooperation between Pakistan and China in emerging clean energy technologies.
Haroon Akhtar Khan said the government remains committed to facilitating strategic investments through ongoing industrial and regulatory reforms aimed at creating a more investor-friendly business environment. He expressed confidence that the agreement would encourage further investment, technology transfer, and long-term industrial cooperation between the two countries.
