She said the government was prioritising disaster prevention over post-disaster response and had undertaken flood protection works in vulnerable areas across the province.
According to a briefing, a seven-kilometre-long embankment at Jalalpur Pirwala is nearing completion, while the Chandar Bun embankment in Alipur has been completed. The government has also completed the 12.6-kilometre Noor Raja Bhatta embankment and ensured the safety of irrigation infrastructure ahead of the monsoon.
The meeting was informed that flood-damaged irrigation facilities had been restored and the province’s water monitoring system modernised. Construction is also underway on a 48-kilometre embankment in the Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA) area to improve flood protection.
The chief minister said arrangements had been made to ensure the availability of clean drinking water, medicines, mobile healthcare services and veterinary support in vulnerable areas. She added that livestock vaccination had been completed before the monsoon and emergency supplies had been pre-positioned across the province.
