Lahore: On the request of the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA), the Lahore District Collector has imposed Section 4 on Kattar Band Road for acquiring 150 acres of land for setting up a wastewater treatment plant, reported a news source.
The Section 4 has been imposed under the Land Acquisition Act of 1894. As per reports, WASA has lauded the construction of the treatment plant on Kattar Band Road.
Previously, the agency had requested the District Collector to impose Section 4 for acquiring 15 acres of land in Mouza Gopi Rai, and 35 acres in Mouza Shahpur.
WASA had finalised its plans with regard to the construction of water treatment plants at six sites in Lahore in March 2018. The areas identified for setting up these plants include Mehmood Booti, Shadbagh, Shahdara, Babu Sabu, Mohlanwal, and Ferozepur Road.
According to the agency, these plant will filter the water before it enters River Ravi. At present, untreated sewerage water from the entire city enters the river – raising major environmental concerns.
