Karachi: The Sindh government has ordered immediate action against dangerous and dilapidated buildings across Karachi, directing authorities to ensure the safe evacuation of residents and the demolition of unsafe structures to prevent potential incidents.
The directives were issued during a high-level meeting chaired by Sindh Minister for Local Government, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, and attended by senior officials, including representatives from the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) and other relevant departments. The meeting reviewed the condition of hazardous buildings in the city and assessed risks posed to residents and surrounding areas.
Addressing participants, the minister said the protection of life and property remains the government’s top priority, stressing that no negligence would be tolerated. He instructed authorities to carry out identification, evacuation, and demolition operations in a coordinated and transparent manner.

Officials were also directed to speed up the digitisation of building records to improve accessibility and help identify unsafe and illegal structures efficiently. In addition, the government is working to introduce new laws related to dilapidated buildings, with an emphasis on transparency and public interest.
The meeting also discussed measures to support affected residents, including reviewing options for alternative accommodation or necessary facilities during displacement.
Authorities have been assigned timelines to accelerate action, as the government aims to mitigate risks posed by structurally compromised buildings and prevent potential loss of life and property.
