Road realignment being investigated - Under the master plan, Margalla Avenue was supposed to commence from the Nicholson Monument on GT Road.

The Tribune story is saying that the Margalla Avenue alignment was changed from the Master Plan route and instead of starting from Nicholson Monument on GT Road it was redesigned by PPP Govt to start from Sangjani Road.

According to the Tribune, this was done to help out a 'Private Developer'.

If they mean MPCHS, then this is not a true allegation because B-17 has equal access whether the Margalla Avenue starts at Sangjani Road or starts at Nicholson Tower.

In fact, if Margalla Avenue starts at Nicholson, then B-17 benefits more because the new road will become more distant from other societies like D-17 etc but not from Multi-Garden. So even D-17 buyers will come to Multi!

The point you made is absolutely correct, either ways MPCHS was a beneficiary but question remains why there was a need to change the master plan?

As per my limited knowledge it was done to entertain the vested interests of a PPP stalwart. If you may recall, in 2010 Chief Commissioner Islamabad was removed and transferred back to Punjab Governement by the Federal Government owing to his refusal to authenticate a mala fide property deal.

Thanks. You are right Tari. PPP was supposed to be a party of the awam but this party has created many records in looting the poor people of Pakistan. They have no shame at all.

I also have many complaints about the priorities of Noon League (for example what is the need for Metro bus when you can spend that money on education of the children of Pakistan who are slipping into drug abuse). But despite all its problems, Noon league is 100 times better than Pakistan Plunder Party.

Yes, it was changed to benefit few, but the question is whatever they have planned, when they are inagurating it, when the construction will end on that and when general public will be benefitted.

The road alignment was changed by the previous government. The current government is not changing it back again. They will just investigate the matter to hold accountability of whoever did this. That’s all. Otherwise the project is just not a priority for this government because all funds are devoted to Metro Bus project.

And the whole tenure of this Government will be over doing the investigations !

Instead of starting another thread I thought I should bring a dead post back to life.

Any updates about Margalla Avenue and future prospects?. Is money the issue of its the land issues in the last stretch ?. Anyone with inside news? maybe your brother works in CDA and can find out?

The government has set its priorities Metro Bus and Kashmir Highway at the top right now. Heavy doses in energy sector is running parallel in their priority. So one can estimate the time line for Margalla Avenue after completion of Metro Bus and KH , they will come after MA at least a year later now.

But what's hesitating them for just slight patches remaining ? Why can't they complete this in parallel to what Kashmir Highway is progressing ?

The whole of Zone-2 is waiting for this surge.

Kashmir Highway and Metro Bus are prioritised, if they can build Metro bus within an year, why they can not complete the remaining 3 KM patch of MA in a month,

They can do it easily, even if it means snatching land from big wigs who are creating issues, yes they can, but they will never do it as they work for their own interest, not for the interest of public.

The punjab government opposed the Margalla Avenue project when it was launched by PPP government because the land on which the road is to be constructed belongs to Punjab and was leased out to the Federal Government in the sixties.

This rivalry is really sad. So what if it was started in PPP tenure. This is a public social interest project same as the motorway which carried To next government.

Pk1 you know the same issue of land ownership between Punjab and federal government for tarnol phattak crossing ?

Tarnol phattak is the border of Punjab and Federal.

I think there is no dispute between Federal Govt and Punjab Govt on the Tarnol area but yes there may be land and funds issues.

The main thing is that Metro Bus is a top priority. The Noon League Government is under tremendous pressure to deliver because there are many trying to nibble at its heels or stab them in the back.

Projects like Metro Bus and power plants are their lifeline to complete this term and take an aim at the next term.

So Margalla Avenue may not find enough funds in the first 1-2 years of their term. May be in 2016. Lets see inshaAllah.
