Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced a major initiative to support farmers in the province under the scheme “Apna Khet, Apna Rozgar.” Starting from April, cultivable government land across Punjab will be leased to peasants for a period of 10 years free of cost, with each beneficiary eligible to receive up to five acres.
The chief minister stated that no lease charges would be collected and that farmers would also receive financial assistance to begin cultivation immediately. The scheme is aimed at boosting agricultural productivity and strengthening the rural economy.
The initiative, first announced on February 4 during the inauguration of an electric bus service in Rajanpur, plans to distribute approximately 250,000 acres among deserving and underprivileged individuals. Detailed guidelines and the application procedure are expected to be issued soon.

In a related development, Maryam Nawaz launched the third phase of the CM Green Tractor Programme, initiating the balloting process for tractors and congratulating successful applicants. She highlighted that while 20,000 tractors were distributed over the past 25 years, her government has provided 31,000 tractors in just two years, reflecting a significant increase in support for modern agricultural machinery.
The chief minister said that both initiatives are part of her government’s commitment to farmer-friendly policies, aimed at improving crop yields and transforming Punjab’s agricultural landscape.
