Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has awarded the contract to expand Ataturk Avenue from D-Chowk to Ayub Chowk, converting the existing single road into a dual-carriageway. The project, estimated at PKR 241 million, is expected to be completed within two months.
CDA spokesperson Shahid Kiani said utmost care is being taken to avoid tree cutting. Twelve trees affected by the road alignment are being transplanted nearby, with four already relocated and the remainder scheduled for transplantation.

The expansion work, originally planned in 2018, had faced controversy over the felling of 140 trees, including mature pines and Jacarandas. This time, the CDA said the project is following directives from the Environment Protection Agency and has implemented measures to protect greenery along the route.
Officials added that work is likely to be inaugurated within the next two days, marking the start of the dual-carriageway upgrade.
