Quetta: The Balochistan cabinet has approved a plantation drive worth PKR 16 billion, a news source reported. This campaign comes as part of the 10 billion tsunami tree project to be carried out under the Green Pakistan Initiative of Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan.
Under the approved plantation drive, the authorities concerned will plant 250 million new saplings and trees throughout the province. Out of the total cost incurred for the operation, the federal government has pledged to provide 75% of the funds needed.
The successful execution of this plantation campaign is expected to expand the province’s total forested area, as well as help in protecting the wildlife species indigenous to Balochistan.
The approval came during the recent meeting of the provincial cabinet, chaired by Balochistan Chief Minister (CM) Jam Kamal Khan.
CM Kamal added that the plantation drive would help create jobs, as well as economic opportunities, for the people of the province.
The members of the meeting agreed that the federal government should release its 75% funds share of the total cost at the earliest, in order to quicken the process.
