Islamabad: Islamabad Police arrested 54 individuals and seized over 21,000 kites and chemical strings in January as part of a crackdown on hazardous kite-flying materials, news sources reported on Sunday.
According to the police, teams carried out raids across Islamabad, arresting 54 people involvedin kite-flying and trading. Over 11,000 kites and more than 10,000 chemical strings were recovered, along with charkhis and related materials. Cases have been registered against the suspects.

The crackdown comes as a three-day Basant festival is scheduled to begin in Lahore on February6, after the Punjab government lifted the ban on the historic event following 18 years, with strict safety regulations.
Separately, Rawalpindi police seized a mini-truck carrying 20,000 kites and 100 rolls of strings on Saturday and arrested the supplier. The kites were reportedly meant for delivery in the garrison city, where the government has imposed a ban on kite sales and flying.
