Gujranwala: Brick kilns located around the Gujranwala district have become operational once again, after the government’s ban on such kilns ended on December 20 – a news source reported.
The government of Punjab had imposed the ban on the brick kilns in an effort to counter smog and air pollution. During the ban, the authorities sealed about 70 brick kilns that were caught violating the ban, while they also arrested the owners of 45 kilns and registered cases against them.
A few brick kilns in the area had managed to adopt to the modern zigzag technology and as a result the district authorities allowed them to continue to be operational even while the ban was in effect.
Many brick kiln owners appeared to appreciate the end of the ban. However, some did express their dissatisfaction with the weather, as a lack of sunlight is expected to cause problems in the brick laying process.
