Islamabad: Pakistan is in discussions with Chinese technology company HYF to establish a laptop and tablet manufacturing facility in the country, in what officials describe as a major step to boost local production and attract foreign investment.
Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) Haroon Akhtar Khan met HYF’s chief executive officer on Monday and assured full government support and security for Chinese investors. HYF is a technology firm specializing in laptops, tablets, and fingerprint devices.
Khan said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has instructed authorities to extend “all possible facilitation” to Chinese companies. He also confirmed that the government’s upcoming Mobile Device Policy will cover laptops and tablets in addition to smartphones, broadening the scope of local manufacturing.

To ease investor entry, Pakistan has already relaxed its visa regime for Chinese nationals, enabling visit and business visas to be processed within 24 to 72 hours. Khan also directed the Pakistan Industrial Development Corporation (PIDC) and the Engineering Development Board (EDB) to provide maximum cooperation to HYF in setting up the proposed facility.
Officials believe the move could help reduce Pakistan’s reliance on imported electronics, support job creation, and position the country as a potential hub for affordable laptops and tablets in the region.
