Islamabad: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has ordered the civil servants to vacate any government residence other than the one in which they are residing, barring them from holding multiple residences at the same time, news sources reported on November 11.

The IHC directed the estate office to compile and submit a list of all federal and provincial government employees with multiple homes within three months. The court ordered the cadre personnel of the civil service to live in only one house and to evacuate all other houses with immediate effect. The court was hearing the petition of a section officer who had been evicted from his residence. The court stated that having multiple residences would result in fewer residences for other employees, which is a breach of their privileges.

It is important to note that the government provides federal and provincial personnel with official apartments at discounted rents to accommodate their families while on duty. The relevant department provides an officer with one residence in the area of their posting.
