Islamabad: Chairman FBR Shabbar Zaidi on Friday constituted three high-level consultative committees that have been created to help with the restructuring of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), a news source reported.
As per the publication, the three committees are based in Karachi, Lahore and Rawalpindi-Islamabad. The first one will be headed by Chief Commissioner Large Taxpayers Unit (LTU) Dr Faiz Illahi Memon, the second will be headed by Chief Commissioner Syed Nadeem Hussain Rizvi, while the third will be headed by Director General Intelligence and Investigation Asim Ahmad, respectively.
The committees have been directed to finalise the future status of the tax authority as an attached department, semi-autonomous department or a completely autonomous body. Other concerns the committees will probe into include recruitment, capacity, retention, financial autonomy, remuneration, organisational structure, and work processes.
The purpose behind these committees is Chairman Zaidi’s desire to involve all stakeholders in the restructuring process, which is why these teams have been recommended to engage with officials in the BS-16 scale and below, as well as other groups that fall under their jurisdictions.
