Rawalpindi: The Punjab government has directed the Communication and Works (C&W) Department to complete the Rawalpindi-Murree-Kohala (RMK) Road project by August to improve connectivity and ease traffic pressure on the Murree Expressway.
The directive was issued by Punjab Minister for Communication and Works Malik Sohaib Ahmed Bharth during a review visit to the under-construction project, which is part of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s Murree Development Plan.
Accompanied by senior C&W officials, the minister inspected more than 31 kilometres of the project and reviewed construction progress and quality. Officials informed the minister that the project had achieved 60% physical completion, with the remaining work progressing at an accelerated pace.
Bharth directed the department to meet the August completion deadline while ensuring strict adherence to construction and engineering standards. He said the project would improve access to Murree and nearby areas, enhance regional connectivity, support tourism and provide safer and more efficient travel for residents and visitors.
Meanwhile, the closure of sections of the RMK Road for construction has increased traffic on the Murree Expressway as tourist arrivals continue to rise.
In response, the City Traffic Police Murree has implemented a special traffic management plan, deploying additional personnel at key roads, intersections and tourist destinations to maintain traffic flow. Authorities have also advised motorists to use alternativeroutes where possible and follow traffic instructions to minimise congestion.
