Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday formally launched the e-portal for the ‘Apni Zameen, Apna Ghar’ programme — a flagship housing initiative aimed at providing free residential plots to the homeless across the province.
The launch ceremony marked a key step in making the application process fully digital. Citizens can now apply for free plots through the newly launched portal: azag.punjab.gov.pk.
Speaking at the event, CM Maryam Nawaz stated that the initiative is close to her heart and part of her government’s vision to provide shelter and security to the province’s most vulnerable. “Every day, 300 new houses are being built in Punjab for homeless people,” she said. “In the first phase, 2,000 plots will be allotted across 23 housing schemes in 19 districts.”

Under this programme, eligible applicants will receive free 3-marla residential plots. Those selected through a draw will also be able to apply for loans to help construct their homes. CM Nawaz highlighted that beneficiaries will be offered a three-month grace period to start construction, with repayment options available in convenient instalments.
Districts covered in the first phase include Jhelum, Pattoki, Mamun Kanjan, Lodhran, and Renala Khurd. The Chief Minister emphasized that this initiative reflects the vision of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. “When I share with him that homes are being completed, his face lights up with joy,” she remarked.
CM Nawaz also addressed the larger housing crisis, noting that many people in Punjab still don’t have access to land for building homes. “This isn’t just about 34,000 houses being built — these are 34,000 prayers,” she said, referring to the scale of construction under the broader Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar programme. She added that 2,000 homes have already been completed and that governments in the past hadn’t achieved such progress even during full terms.
“Security comes from owning your own home,” she said. “But for the average person, it’s becoming nearly impossible to afford one. This programme is a lifeline.”
Punjab’s Housing Minister, Bilal Yasin, echoed these sentiments, sharing that loans worth Rs36 billion are being extended to 33,500 beneficiaries under the scheme. “The people of Punjab are grateful to the Chief Minister for initiating such a transformative programme,” he said.

The government has committed to transparency and inclusivity throughout the allotment process, urging eligible citizens to apply through the official e-portal. The digital platform is expected to streamline applications, track progress, and ensure fair distribution.
The Apni Zameen, Apna Ghar initiative is part of a broader provincial strategy to address housing shortages, improve living standards, and empower lower-income families through home ownership.
