Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved the initiation of the Yellow Line Mass Transit project along with a pilot fleet of 1,100 eco-friendly e-taxis, marking a significant step toward modernizing urban transportation in Lahore and the wider Punjab region.
During a recent high-level meeting, the feasibility report for the Yellow Line corridor—stretching from Jinnah Terminal to Harbanspura—was presented, and the Chief Minister directed that work on this important route begin immediately. The project aims to alleviate the persistent traffic congestion that plagues Lahore’s busy roads.

In addition to the mass transit project, the meeting focused on Punjab’s e-taxi initiative, designed to reduce pollution while providing affordable, efficient transportation. To support this green mobility effort, the government will offer subsidies to make the e-taxis accessible to a broader population.
Sustainability remains a core priority, with plans to install solar-powered charging stations for the electric taxi fleet. These stations will likely be set up alongside existing petrol pumps for ease of access.
Maryam Nawaz also sought a detailed report on potential new transit routes in Gujranwala, stressing that route selection must prioritize public convenience to maximize the benefits of the expanded mass transit system.
Earlier, the Chief Minister set a June 30 deadline for the completion of key components of the Lahore Development Plan, including the rehabilitation of thousands of streets across the city. This comprehensive urban development strategy complements the mass transit projects, collectively aiming to enhance Lahore’s infrastructure and quality of life.
