Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved the establishment of a Google Chromebook manufacturing factory in Lahore, aiming to strengthen technology-driven education and enhance the province’s IT infrastructure.
The decision was announced during a meeting with a high-level delegation from Google for Education and Tech Valley, led by Kevin Kalis, Global Director of Google for Education, and Umar Farooq, CEO of Tech Valley. The delegation briefed the Chief Minister on Google’s educational technology initiatives and shared plans to introduce three major software solutions in upcoming Chromebooks: an Artificial Intelligence Toolkit, AI Gemini for enhanced digital learning, Read Along for English language learning, and Canva to promote design thinking and creativity.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif assured full government support for the project, emphasizing its potential to integrate information technology into basic education and equip students with modern skills. She noted that the initiative aligns with the provincial government’s broader goal of transforming Punjab into a hub for artificial intelligence and educational technology.

The delegation also highlighted that over 2,000 public school teachers in Punjab have already been trained through Google for Education programs, with additional training sessions planned to upskill more educators across the province. They praised the Chief Minister’s vision for advancing education through technology.
Maryam Nawaz Sharif reaffirmed the government’s commitment to digital literacy and IT integration, stating that the Chromebook manufacturing facility will not only bolster local IT infrastructure but also provide students with access to modern educational tools and applications.
In a separate matter, the Chief Minister expressed grief over the death of four family members in a rickshaw accident caused by an overturned truck in Lahore, offering condolences to the bereaved family and requesting a detailed report from the authorities.
