Islamabad: The federal government has decided to enforce nationwide closure of markets, bazaars and shopping malls by 8 pm as part of energy conservation measures, with implementation starting April 7.
The decision, taken in consultation with provinces, applies across Islamabad, all provinces, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, markets in divisional headquarters will be allowed to remain open until 9 pm.

Under the new policy, restaurants, bakeries and tandoors will close by 10pm, while wedding halls, marquees and private events must also end by 10pm. Pharmacies and medical stores are exempt from the restrictions.
Officials said the measures are aimed at reducing energy consumption amid rising fuel costs. The government has urged provinces to ensure implementation, while consultations are ongoing in Sindh.
Authorities warned that compliance will be monitored as part of broader efforts to manage energy demand and support austerity measures.
